Headaches?
A change in circumstances, new or different activities, social isolation, and financial, organisational and family stress are often blamed for headaches. Stress is one of the bigger factors in head pain, but did you know that different areas of the cervical spine (neck) can also refer pain to different areas of your head?
What can you do to help a headache? Three mainstays of headache treatment are Medication, Physiotherapy and Lifestyle changes. For medication, the best people to talk to are your GP or pharmacist. They can advise on the right medications for you and ensure that there aren't contraindications with anything else you might be using.
Physiotherapists, can offer manual therapy to help treat areas of the neck that may be referring to your head and exercises that may help keep symptoms under control. I also advise people to make some lifestyle changes, including changing positions regularly when on the computer or doing repetitive tasks and helping manage stressors. One great way to do this is a regular meditation/mindfulness practice such as Yoga Nidra. If you'd like to experience a Yoga Nidra contact me and I'll link you up with a free download.
